Sherrie Nickel

M.Ed, Practicum Student

I am excited to be entering a new chapter of my life after retiring from a thirty year career in education. During my tenure as a teacher and administrator, I worked with students from all grade levels while also supporting parents and staff. I am now a Masters of Counselling Psychology student from Yorkville University, and also hold bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Lethbridge.

Counselling has called to me because I believe that all people have potential and deserve to live the fullest life possible. I also know that the journey is not always easy, and we encounter barriers along the way. My goal is to help people overcome those barriers in order to life whole-heartedly. I see this to be true for adults and children as well, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs and all those traits that describe but do not define us. I have experience working with all populations, and consider this an asset for successful counselling.

My educational background has provided me with a solid foundation in counselling practices such as, but not exclusive to, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution-focused Therapy, Person-centered Therapy, Mindfulness, Self Compassion, and Self-regulation. With that said, what has resonated with me most and I believe to be at the root of most, if not all, therapy is unconditional positive regard. I intend for my counselling practice to display that at every turn.

I am a mother and grandmother who loves to read, dance and create. I am a lifelong learner, and believe that we all have the potential to continue growing and learning for our whole lives.
